Our Beliefs
Chalice is a Unitarian-Universalist (UU) Congregation, and a
member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UAA).
Principles
A hallmark of UU congregations is the mutual agreement among members
to conduct their lives by certain principles that transcend all creeds.
These are are our
seven principles
(Principios en Español).
Chalice Covenant
Our congregations are covenantal groups, where we agree to a covenant
which describes how we will relate to one another. The Chalice covenant
is:
Mindful of our diversity and our need for greater understanding,
we promise to open our hearts and minds to foster a safe,
inviting and loving community.
We will treat one another genuinely and respectfully as together we
share life's journey toward wholeness.
Our Purpose
The By-laws of our congregation state:
This congregation unites to foster spiritual and personal growth and to
promote principles of community, dignity, and the right of individual
conviction and truth regardless of source. We work for social justice in
our locale and in the larger world and in so doing create a better life
in the here and now. We dedicate ourselves to the democratic process in
human relationships and endeavor to respect the interdependent web of
existence of which we are a part.
Chalice Mission Statement
Our mission at Chalice is:
Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors,
Nurturing spirits;
Seeking justice within the wider world
Welcoming Congregation
We are pleased to be designated a Welcoming Congregation by the
Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, and as such we
honor and value the racial, cultural, economic, religious, physical
ability, sexual orientation and gender diversity of our members and
visitors, young and old.
Self-Governance
UU congregations are self-governing, with each congregation determining
if they want a minister, whom to call as a minister, what their by-laws
will be, how they will conduct worship, and how congregants will relate
to one another.
